No. There is no verified film or scripted TV production featuring both Meryl Streep and Jet Li in the sources checked for this article. Streep is known for films like The Devil Wears Prada and Sophie’s Choice. Li is known for martial arts films like Hero and Fearless. No project lists both of them in the cast.
A few details can cause mix-ups. Li plays the Emperor in Disney’s live-action Mulan, but Streep is not in that movie. Their names also came up together in the debate over Streep’s 2017 Golden Globes speech. That debate is part of film history. It is not a joint project.
Did Meryl Streep and Jet Li Ever Make a Movie Together?
No. Studio pages and filmography records for both actors show no shared movie. As of October 2026, no official studio announcement of a joint project has turned up either.
The two actors built very different careers. Streep’s credits include The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!, The Iron Lady, and Sophie’s Choice. Li’s credits include Once Upon a Time in China, Hero, Fearless, Romeo Must Die, and The Forbidden Kingdom. Different careers do not stop actors from sharing a movie, but in this case the credits simply do not overlap.
There is one limit to keep in mind. Film credits show who worked on the same production. They cannot show whether two people have met at an event or spoken in private. So “no shared movie” is a fact we can support. “They have never met” is not.
Is Jet Li in Mulan With Meryl Streep?
Jet Li is in Mulan, but Meryl Streep is not. Disney’s 2020 live-action remake was released on September 4, 2020. Li plays the Emperor of China. Liu Yifei stars as Mulan, Donnie Yen plays Commander Tung, and Gong Li plays the witch Xian Lang.
The official cast list has no Meryl Streep. So this film is not a Streep and Li movie. If you saw a post or poster that says otherwise, it is not backed by the cast list.
Why Are Meryl Streep and Jet Li Mentioned Together?
The clearest link comes from the 2017 Golden Globes. When Streep accepted an award on January 8, 2017, she spoke about the many outsiders and immigrants who work in Hollywood. She said that without them, people would be left with only football and mixed martial arts, which she said are not the arts.
The remark drew criticism from some commentators. In a January 9, 2017 article, Inverse argued that the comment overlooked the history of Asian martial arts performers in Hollywood. The article mentioned Jet Li alongside other stars who helped shape martial arts cinema. This explains a documented connection between their names, but it does not establish that the two actors worked together.
That is a real, documented link between the two names. It does not mean Streep and Li worked together or knew each other. It also does not prove this is why people search for them together today. People may simply be curious about an unusual pair of famous names, and no source shows the exact reason.
How Do Their Careers Compare?
Meryl Streep is known for dramas, comedies, and musicals. In The Devil Wears Prada, she plays Miranda Priestly, a powerful fashion editor. In The Iron Lady, she plays British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. In Mamma Mia!, she stars in a musical built on ABBA songs.
Jet Li began as a wushu champion in China. His official website describes him as a former national wushu champion. He rose to fame in films like Shaolin Temple and Once Upon a Time in China, where he plays the hero Wong Fei-hung. Hero is a historical action story, and Fearless is based on the life of martial artist Huo Yuanjia.
Li later reached U.S. audiences with Lethal Weapon 4 and Romeo Must Die. So one actor is tied to character-driven stories, and the other to martial arts and action. That is a fair way to describe their careers, but it is not an explanation for why their names are paired.
What Are They Working on Now?
Their latest projects are separate. Streep returned as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which 20th Century Studios lists with a May 1, 2026 release. Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci also returned.
Li appears in Blades of the Guardians, a martial arts film. Distributor Well Go USA lists a February 17, 2026 release date and says it is now available on digital. These two films have no shared cast or story, so they should not be read as a link between the actors.
Are Meryl Streep and Jet Li Friends or Related?
We found no reliable public source that says they are friends, relatives, or close contacts. Posts online that claim otherwise should be treated with care. A claim like that needs a clear source, such as an interview or a statement from one of the actors.
Three questions are easy to mix up. Whether they made a movie together can be checked in the credits. Whether they are related needs solid biographical records. Whether they are friends depends on what they have said in public. The credits answer only the first one.

The Bottom Line
Meryl Streep and Jet Li have separate careers, and their public credits show no shared movie or TV project. Li’s role in Mulan does not include Streep. The Golden Globes debate links their names through film history, not through a joint production. Whether they have ever met is a separate question, and the records do not answer it.
